Hydrocyclone Sand Separator

The hydrocyclone sand separator, also called a hydrocyclone filter, is a type of filtering equipment mainly used in agricultural irrigation, industrial water treatment systems, and other fields. It is designed to filter larger impurities from water. Unlike other filters, it does not use screens to filter; instead, its working principle leverages centrifugal action.

When water enters from the inlet at the top side, the flow rotates. Due to the difference in specific gravity between water and larger particles, impurities (such as sand and stones) gradually separate from the water and settle in the tank at the bottom of the filter, while the filtered clean water is discharged from the outlet at the top. The hydrocyclone filter can be used repeatedly for a long time, as long as the impurity tank is cleaned regularly.

The hydrocyclone sand separator is typically used as the primary filtering equipment to remove large impurities from water. Afterward, a disc filter or screen filter is used for further filtration. Finally, all large and small impurities are thoroughly filtered out, ensuring that irrigation system components (such as sprinklers, drippers, and pipes) are not easily clogged. Based on the hydrocyclone filter’s working principle, it is often used in water sources with high sand content, such as well water, lake water, and river water.

The hydrocyclone sand separator is mainly divided into metal and plastic materials. Our company primarily produces plastic hydrocyclone filters made of materials like PP. Although metal hydrocyclone filters are stronger and more pressure-resistant, they are heavier and more prone to rust. In agricultural irrigation, high pressure resistance is not a strict requirement, but corrosion resistance is crucial. Therefore, we recommend plastic hydrocyclone filters for agricultural irrigation because they are corrosion-resistant, UV-resistant, lightweight, easy to install, low-maintenance, and offer higher cost performance.
